NW College Updates 1-6-2019

Please read through the updates below and respond where required, if you have not done so already.  As always, please contact me if you have any questions.

·       The national meeting that our group will be attending is in Chicago (Sat Jan 19th).  If you plan on attending and have not registered yet, please do soon.  If you already know your travel plans (air, car, train, etc.), please shoot me a quick note and let me know when you plan on arriving.  Thanks to those that have responded with your travel plans.  There is no need to respond again.  We’ll probably grab pizza on Friday night – all are welcomed.

·       Below, are requirements and additional information from Don Umland, D3 National Coordinator, regarding D3 post season.

o   Important: Any umpire that wishes to be considered for post-season consideration (regionals and beyond) must be:

1) Registered with the NCAA/Arbiter Sports.

2) Attend one of the four regional umpire clinics that are offered every other year. Rule change years are when regional clinics are offered around the country starting in January.  Viewing the online clinic (on even numbered years i.e. last year or next year) will not meet the requirement for post season consideration.

3) Pass the NCAA Test which is supplied via arbiter sports.

4) View on the online clinic which is offered on the non-rule change years (next season).

o   An expanded number of umpires will be selected due to the revised format for post-season competition which includes a regional, super-regional and national championship format.

§  Regional Weekend: May 16 - 19. Sixteen regionals (13 - four team and 3 - two team). 58 teams total. Most will be comprised of six umpires. Total selection expands from 53 to 93 umpires plus alternates.

§  Super Regional Weekend: May 23 - 26: Comprised of eight sites with each site playing best two out of three game formats with winners advancing to the national championship. Four umpires per site. 32 total umpires plus alternates.

§  National Championship: May 30 - June 4/5: New location of Veteran's Stadium in Cedar Rapids, IA. - Eight umpires selected.

·       Northwest (NW) Umpires association updates which you should have already received from Jeff.  If you did not receive this information, please let Jeff and I know ASAP.

o   Regarding our annual meeting, February 10th at 1 pm. It will be held this year at the Richfield Legion.  New umpires are asked to attend the hour-long Northwest Way presentation by Ed Bova. It starts at noon. Address for the Legion is:

§  Richfield American Legion Post 435
