CBUA Email Feb-2011

This is a mass email to CBUA Umpires . . .

CBUA Umpires,

Thank you to each and every one of you who attended the NCAA and CBUA Meetings in Chicago.  I appreciate you understanding the commitment that is necessary to officiate at the collegiate level.

DEADLINE approaching . . . Just a reminder that February 13 is the deadline for completing the NCAA online rules test and for submitting background check paperwork.

ALL CBUA umpires are expected to complete the NCAA online rules test and, yes, other coordinators/assignors and I do look at test results, meeting attendance, etc. as we consider umpires for future assignments.

Check out our new CBUA Central Hub page at:  www.cbua.arbitersports.com/  In particular, look at the links page and become familiar with the resources provided by the CBUA.  I encourage you to download the NCAA Incident/Ejection/Suspension Report so that you have it readily available if/when needed this season.

Regardless of the level you are umpiring, if you check the D-I box on the report, you'll be able to email your report directly to me.  I will then distribute it for you to the appropriate assignors, schools, conference offices, etc.  Please note there are also direct links specific to JUCO and NAIA baseball reports and information.

If you have not received your timer from Honigs, email me IMMEDIATELY.

If you have not received your NCAA Rule Book and/or CCA Manual, email me IMMEDIATELY.

As we approach the start of the season, I encourage you to take a hard look at yourself . . . your prepartion, your demeanor and attitude, your passion for umpiring, your willingness to be a strong and loyal crewmate, etc.  Are you ready to make this season your best?  Are you ready to be a leader?  Are you ready to earn opportunities through hard work and professionalism, as opposed to feeling better about yourself by pointing out the faults or shortcomings of other umpires.  Decide for yourself what kind of official . . . what kind of person . . . you want to be.

YOU ARE NEVER . . .

So experienced, you've seen everything.

So smart, you can't learn something.

So good, you can't get better.

So sure, you can't miss a call.

So proud, you can't admit making a mistake.

So right, you can't listen/talk appropriately to players & coaches.

So superior, you can't help mentor someone who wants/needs your help.

So worthy, someone else should not get the "big game."

So perfect, you shouldn't seek help when it is needed.

If you're not working hard, growing and getting better, you are falling further behind.

Rich Fetchiet

CBUA Coordinator of Baseball Umpires
